Out of Sight, Out of Mind? - By: Georganne Fiumara, Posted on: 2006-01-08

Are you able to clean off your desk at the end of each day or are you afraid to file current projects because you will forget about them? Do you have little reminder notes all over your computer and your desk? There is a simple system that can help you remember your priorities without piling your work on every available desk surface.

To get started, you will need a daily or weekly calendar, a legal pad some hanging file folders and a desktop hot file. The legal pad will be where you keep your master to-do list. Every time you think of anything you need to do, write it down on your legal pad. Don't write a general project heading:

Write down all of the smaller tasks associated with each project. When an item has a deadline, note it on your calendar immediately. Don't make notes on little pieces of paper. Instead, use your calendar to note important tasks that need immediate attention.

At the end of each day, review your master to-do list and schedule a reasonable number of items on to your calendar. Create files for your top projects and put them in your desktop hot file for easy access. As you complete your tasks, don't just cross them off your list. Make a new list of all your completed tasks as a record of your accomplishments.
